2022 Honda CR-V Informative Car Review

Overview
The 2022 Honda CR-V is not one to get your heart racing, but its large interior and fuel efficient powertrains make it an appealing compact crossover. It's so popular that it made the list of our 2022 Editors' Choice! The Honda isn't exactly thrilling to drive at top speeds, and neither does either of its engines offer outstanding performance; however, you can feel confident driving with no problems in steering or stopping. On long trips this car provides a smooth ride - just avoid pressing too hard on the gas pedal if you want to steer clear of listening to a loud drone from the base engine.
With its impressive fuel economy and vibrant standard safety features, the CR-V is undoubtedly one of the top contenders for family road trips. Its tech options and reliable performance also make it a highly competitive choice in this fiercely contested segment. Even though it may not be as flashy or luxurious, when you look at all aspects combined, no other SUV comes close to matching what the 2022 CR-V has to offer - simply put, it's confidentially satisfying!
Engine, Transmission, and Performance
Honda put in the time and effort to introduce its debut turbocharged engine - a 1.5-liter powertrain that churns out 190 horsepower - into the CR-V, combined with one of the finest continuously variable automatic transmissions (CVTs) available! It is certainly not an overstatement to say this deserves our congratulations. The majority of compact crossovers demonstrate modest hauling capabilities while the CR-V showcases a mere 1500 pounds capacity. Parents who may also be street racers could perhaps be dissatisfied with how quickly it accelerates; however, Honda has made sure that all other performance areas are spot on for such a useful family vehicle.
Contrastingly, its sophisticated ride, agile steering and powerful brakes will surely make people acknowledge the CR-V. Its compliant drive makes it perfect for a relaxed commute - regardless of how long or short your journey is. Moreover, you can count on achieving the stopping power you desire with an intense brake pedal. And to top it off - thanks to its 2 liter four cylinder along with two electric motors producing 201 horsepower in total, hybrid CR-Vs are incredibly responsive even when torquing up hills!
The hybrid system offered an incredibly smooth and unnoticeable ride, thanks to Honda's thoughtful implementation of sound-deadening materials and active noise canceling capabilities in the audio system. It was a much quieter experience than other base models that roar when you press down on the gas pedal - making it one of the most serene vehicles in its class!
Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG
The CR-V is equipped with two fuel efficient engine options. The front wheel drive, gas only model gets an impressive rating of 28 miles per gallon in the city and 34 mpg on the highway. All wheel drive models are rated at 27 mpg for city driving and 32 mpg for highway travel. We recently tested a all wheel drive CR-V along our 75 mph fuel economy route as part of our thorough testing process and it earned an impressive rate of 28mpg! For those looking to save even more at the pump, there's also a hybrid version available boasting 40mpg in cities and 35 mpghwy - making this one SUV that won't break your budget.
On the other hand, the fuel efficiency of Toyota RAV4 hybrid is rated incredibly high at 41/38 mpg in city and highway respectively. Our actual tests revealed that Honda attained 32 mpg on highways while its competitor -Toyota outdid it by 5 mpg (37 total). If you want to know more about CR-V's mileage, then head over to EPA's website for a detailed report.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
Step into the CR-V and feel yourself instantly soothed with its stylish and spacious interior. Combining quality materials, a contemporary layout, faux-wood accents, chromed plastic and brushed satin finishes together to create an upscale ambience in the Touring version that we tested out! Let's not forget how comfortable it is too – thanks to nicely sculpted front seats that hug you just right.
Outperforming its competitors in cargo volume and luggage space, the CR-V impressively stands out with user-friendly features and useful equipment. We were able to easily fit 10 carry-on suitcases behind the rear seat - an amount that was identical to both the CX-5 and Ford Escape! When you fold down the backseats, this Honda model offers unbeatable storage space compared its class.
Safety and Driver-Assistance Features
The Honda also comes standard with a suite of driver-assistance technology to help prevent collisions from happening in. For more information about the CR-V's crash-test results, visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) websites.
